Heng Lam Foong joined SSG/APIFM as Program Director in February 2020, bringing to the organization 25 years of experience in nonprofit management, community engagement and policy advocacy. Most recently, she was the Senior Policy Manager of the Health Access Project (HAP) at Asian Americans Advancing Justice Los Angeles where she worked with the HAP team and Health Justice Network partners on health coverage, language access, oral health and immigration. Prior to that Heng Lam spent 8-years at the Urban and Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI) at Occidental College, where she collaborated with students, faculty and staff to develop the College’s Public Health minor. She remains an adjunct faculty working with students on community health engagement.

During her nonprofit tenure with organizations including Healthy Eating Active Communities South Los Angeles and SSG/PALS for Health, Heng Lam is humbled to have had the privilege to partner with multiracial and multiethnic coalitions on intersecting public health issues including equitable access to healthy food, clean tap water and neighborhood parks, as well as access to linguistically and culturally relevant health and health care for limited English proficient individuals. She loves the diversity of Los Angeles and when she is not exploring the city with her partner and their 8-year old, you can probably find her working in the garden or running through the neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
